Hundreds more people have had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at weekend and evening clinics over the past week.
More than 1,000 first doses have been put into arms across Cornwall in the past seven days, including via the mobile vaccination unit that has been visiting towns and villages
With additional walk-in dates planned, the hope is even more people will take advantage of protecting themselves and their loved ones ahead of lockdown lifting on Monday. (19 July )
Walk-in clinics are also continuing for Pfizer first dose only at the large scale vaccination centres at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge and Stithians Showground, seven days a week between 10am and 6pm.
Iain Davison, who is clinical lead at some of the vaccination centres in West Cornwall, said: “Nearly 750,000 doses have now gone into people’s arms in Cornwall – this is fantastic news.
“We’re doing all that we can to make it as easy as possible for people to protect themselves, their loved ones and get back to the things they like and enjoy when lockdown is lifted on Monday.
“I’d like to reiterate that it’s really important that people who have had their first dose also come back for their second. A second dose is required to provide the body with better protection against the virus.
“Anyone who has had their first dose can now have their second at eight weeks rather than 12. If you are already booked for an appointment through the national booking service at 12 weeks, consider logging on to the system and changing it to bring the appointment forward. Vaccinators at the Stithians and Wadebridge showgrounds, will be only too pleased to see you for your second dose. So please, don’t delay and get your jab today, and do it for Cornwall.”
