Cornwall Council will be providing meals to more than 15,000 children over the October half term.

The council will use money from the Household Support Fund to help those currently receiving free school meals in Cornwall over the holiday break.

Cabinet member for Children and families, Barbara Ellenbroek, said: “Cornwall Council is only able to continue to make this funding available due to the government provision of the Household Support Fund, which is a temporary grant.

“The fund, which is worth around £4.5 million to Cornwall, can be used to continue to support households with living costs during the covid recovery period.”

Schools will be provided with funding of up to £15 per eligible child to support their local families.

Plans are also being worked on for a holiday activity and food scheme at Christmas, based on the ‘Time 2 Move’ programme that ran over the summer.
