Fewer people in Cornwall are smoking, with new data published yesterday by the University College of London (UCL) showing a drop of almost 7% in smoking prevalence.
Ten years ago 21% of people in Cornwall smoked, but this has now fallen to 15.7%.
In the last year alone, smoking prevalence fell by 2.5% and whilst still slightly higher than the national average, it has fallen by a greater percentage. In Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly approximately 80,000 people are smokers.
The report has been released as Cornwall Council and Public Health England launch the Stoptober quit smoking campaign which aims to encourage even more people to quit.
