Cornwall health chiefs say an amnesty held to mark International Day for Disabled People resulted in lots of equipment that’s no longer needed being handed inat fire stations across Cornwall.

Earlier this month, disAbility Cornwall and Isles of Scilly and the Parent Carer Council for Cornwall, asked the public to recycle unwanted mobility aids by dropping them in to their local Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service station.

NHS equipment will be recycled within the system and all other equipment will be shipped to the Kenya Disabled People’s Organisation and schools for disabled children.

Jane Johnson said: ’We were delighted to receive such a fantastic response to the equipment amnesty, both on the day and since, with a huge amount of equipment donated which will be put to good use by people in real need in Kenya.’
