CORNWALL and the Isles of Scilly will be in the lowest tier of restrictions when lockdown ends on December 2.
It’s one of only two places in England to go into Tier One – the other is the Isle of Wight.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock is currently describing the tier system in the House of Commons and telling different areas of the country which tier they will come under as of next Wednesday.
A ‘look-up’ tool on the Government website where people could search for their tier by postcode crashed shortly after it was launched this morning.
Under Tier One, the ‘rule of six’ will apply when meeting either indoors or outdoors with anyone not from your household or support bubble. Pubs and restaurants will shut at 10pm. Personal care venues such as hairdressers will be allowed to open. Spectators and audiences will be allowed at sporting events and live performances, with limited numbers.
Under Tier Two, household mixing indoors will not be allowed and the ‘rule of six’ will apply in outdoor public spaces such as parks. Pubs will be able to open to 11pm but alcohol will only be able to be sold with a ‘substantive meal’. Indoor entertainment venues will be closed. Personal care such as hairdressing will be allowed.
Under Tier Three, no household mixing will be allowed either indoors or outdoors – including in private gardens. The rule of six will apply to outdoor public spaces like parks. Pubs and restaurants will be shut except for takeaways or delivery, and indoor entertainment venues will be closed. Personal care such as hairdressing will be allowed. Guidance will say don’t travel in or out of a Tier Three area.
Under all the tiers, people should work from home if they can do so, says the Health Secretrary.
All shops will be able to be open. The pub industry has said it feels unfairly penalised by the restrictions of the tier system, and that it is facing ‘the darkest of moments’.
The national lockdown has had an impact on reducing cases, with a drop of 19% this week on last week, said the Health Secretary, and “it was vital we maintain the gains we have made”.
UK-wide Christmas arrangements will enable people from three households to meet during five days over the festive break
