There is anger on the Rame Peninsula as large numbers of people continue to head to beaches in Whitsand Bay.
The Government has warned that if people don’t heed guidance on staying at home and avoiding unnessary travel, that stricter restrictions on movement will have to be brought in soon. MPs will, later today, debate emergency legislation to tackle the Coronavirus outbreak.
But residents of villages like Millbrook say that many second-home owners and holiday makers have already made a deliberate beeline for the area, and they’re worried that this is putting a strain on resources that are already stretched.
One Millbrook resident said: ’I know that everyone in the village is being really respectful of isolation and I’m deeply concerned for the elderly here.
’Most of the village is worried, not only for our elderly, but also for our beaches. Every year the rubbish pretty much doubles due to non-local people not realising that bags of litter don’t get taken from the beaches. So whilst the village respectfully isolates, our resources and our beaches are really in trouble as there is no one to pick it up.
’In the shops, the product is moving quicker than the residents can get to it.
’If you were to drive to Tregantle beach right now, you can’t even park! Right now, nothing is being done to stop them poeple going to the beaches.’
