Liskeard Carnival has been given a cash boost just in time for the big event.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall has handed £1,000 to organisers, the Lions Club of Liskeard.

The donation is part of the firm’s Community Champions scheme.

Liskeard Lion John Gliddon said: ‘The total cost of the event is in the region of £2,000, so Persimmon’s donation is a truly massive help to overall proceedings.’

The carnival events begin tomorrow (June 27) with the pavement artist competition from 5pm on the Parade and continue that evening with the annual carnival bingo at the Eliot House Hotel, Liskeard, with doors opening at 7pm and eyes down at 8pm.

On Wednesday, June 28, it’s Liskeard’s own Furry Dance. Registration is at the Cattle Market at 5.30pm and dancing starts from 6.30pm. Costumes are not essential but highly desirable.

Games night takes place on Thursday, June 29, at the Royal British Legion, Liskeard.

The doors open at 7pm with the event getting under way at 7.30pm.

Quizmaster Martin Symonds will be asking the questions at the Carnival Quiz Night on Friday, June 30. There will be topical, pictorial and local questions and entry for a team of four is £5.

The quiz is taking place at the Eliot House Hotel and doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

This year’s parade, on Saturday, July 1, takes place at 6.30pm from the Cattle Market car park (judging is from 6pm).
