A Liskeard wom-an has said a special thank-you to her local GP for his help in looking after her and her family for many years. Jonathan Ussher, from the Oak Tree Surgery in Liskeard, is currently on leave before returning to work part-time next month, and celebrated his 60th birthday yesterday. For 27-year-old Emily Kidd, the opportunity to thank him for the care he had provided to her was too good to miss, and she presented him with a home-made cake, flowers and champagne as a mark of her gratitude. Emily explained that Dr Ussher has been a good friend to her family for many years, having cared for her father, who died of cancer in 1994. He then helped her overcome medical problems of her own, including kidney transplants and a heavy reliance on medicines prescribed for her epilepsy, as a result of which she says she has been given a new lease of life. 'He has been something of a father figure to me and I just wanted to let him know how grateful I am for all that he has done for me and my family,' she said. 'I am sure there are many other people in Liskeard who feel the same way.'
