England cricketing legend and BBC Strictly Come Dancing winner Darren Gough will be guest of honour at St John Village Hall, near Torpoint, at the end of the month.

Gough, (right), was one of England's most successful pace bowlers and, in an international career that started back in 1994 and continued until 2003, the 38-year-old played in 58 Test matches and took 229 wickets at an average of 28.39.

The former England man also played in 159 One Day Internationals, in which he took 235 wickets at a cost of 26.42 runs each.

Gough started his cricketing career with his native Yorkshire, where he made his debut in 1989 and was awarded his County Cap in 1993. Between 2004 and 2006 Gough played for Essex but returned to his home county for the 2007 and 2008 seasons, at the end of which he brought the curtain down on a long and impressive career in cricket.

He played in a total of 248 first-class matches, during which he took 855 wickets at an average of 27.15, as well as appearing in 420 one-day games in which he took 598 wickets for 24.17 runs each.

In addition to his cricketing achievements, 'Dazzler' Gough endeared himself to a whole new audience of fans when he won the BBC Strictly Come Dancing title.

Now Gough fans have the chance to spend an evening in his company thanks to this special event that has been arranged by Dan Bettinson, the manager at the St John Inn for Thursday, March 26. Part proceeds from the evening, which also features local comedian Tank Sherman, will be donated to Primrose Ward at Derriford Hospital, which specialises in the treatment of Breast Cancer
