Duchy College student Megan Giles, who is studying on the Tournament Golf College Development Programme, is celebrating after winning the college sport National Championships in Newcastle, finishing four shots ahead of her nearest competitor.

The competition is one of the largest annual sporting events in England, involving more than 1,800 college students and 200 staff.  Students qualify for the championships through regional tournaments that take place in the autumn term. Megan competed in the regional qualifier at Mendip Springs Golf Club.

The Tournament Golf College Development Programme combines a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport with golf tuition and match play.  The course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and students study a range of topics such as Sports Nutrition, Performance Analysis, Psychology and Sports Injuries. The programme allows students to study and play golf using world class facilities at St Mellion and in Portugal.
