After the recent defeat of St Mellion's Frank Wills team by Falmouth in the quarter final held at Perranporth club spirits have been lifted by successes in both the Cornwall Team Championship and the Cornish Bowl.
First the Bowl team took on Trethorne at Lanhydrock and record a 3.5 - 1.5 victory. There were wins for the foursomes pairings of Club Captain Eamonn Drummond and Roy Dransfield, Alan Cookson and Stuart England and John Marquand with Mike Sutcliffe. Alan Pugh and David Zasikowski managed to obtain a half in their match whilst Clive Ugalde and Niven Penprase were the only losers.
St Mellions opponents in the Cornish Bowl semi final will be St Austell. This match is due to be played at Trethorne Golf Club on Saturday 19th February with an 11.00 start.
In the CTC match between St Mellion and Bude held at St Enodoc the club recorded an 8. 3/4 - 4 win. In the morning foursomes there were wins for Alan Poole and Brian Rickard as well as Nick Horrocks and Peter Southcott whilst the other two pairs were beaten leaving the lunchtime score at 2-2.
In the afternoon singles there were wins for - Adam Frayne 4-2 against Colin Willis; Andy Nicholson 4-2 against Jeremy Maude; Peter Southcott 3-2 against Mark Anderson; Nick Horrocks 7-6 against Peter Wright; Alan Poole 7-5 against B Shepherd; Simon Bertenshaw bt Daryl Troop 1-up.
Brian Rickard was beaten on the 17th by former County Captain Steve Rickard and Stuart Walsh lost 3-2 to Mark Kimpton.
Ninth man Richard Ackland recorded a victory in his singles match winning by a 7-5 margin.
Due to the uncertain weather only 12 Whitsand Bay Veterans played a three ball, two scores to count winners were - D Foster, J Trevail, T Bart, 83 pts; C Hancock, D Nicholson, G Barrell, 73; T Doyle, D Rawlings, A Sykes, 72.
On Friday a better turnout and 20 played a 4 BBB winners were - D Foster, D Rawlings, 43 pts; S Pearce, K Bickle, 41; R Jenkins, K Pomeroy, 37.
On Thursday the weather at last relented and LOOE Vets could enjoy a good game of golf and the eighth round of the winter eclectic was contested. First place went to Mike Phillips with 40 points followed by Brian Taylor 37 with third place going to Ray Petipher on count back from Arthur Northfield with 36.

Sundays Winter League saw another 60+ field. The current front runners once again found it difficult to make any head way - however Mike McLoughlin and Digger Ebdon showed a clean pair of heels to the field finishing in front ahead of Neil Davis on 44 pts, Paul Pascoe and Eddie Bray, Colin Hough and Terry Pratt, Brian Hodge and Bob Deacon. Bob Deacon is slowly creeping up his field as is Ian Hawke and Terry Pratt - with only two rounds left who knows?
