Another hectic weekend at Looe Golf Club saw the 10th round of the Winter League on Saturday and for the second week in a row Ian Hawke finished in first place - this time with Mike Hollingdale as a very able partner - finishing on 44 points. Ian is now rapidly moving up the leader board.

Alan Soady and Jules Hignett finished a very creditable second with 43 points, just two points ahead of the third placed pair Bob Newman and Brian Shiel.

Sunday saw the qualifying competition for the Daily Mail Foursomes - despite blustery conditions Eddie Bray and Phil Pond out stripped the field to finish on 65.5 - two shots clear of Murdo MacDonald and Steve Linin on 67.5. The stalwart pairings of Brian Hodge and John Nicholls just edged into third place ahead of Dennis Edwards and Dave Elliott.

It was nice to see Peter Tyler back on Monday when he played in a Looe Vets mafia with Arthur Northfield and Brian Taylor to take the honours with 89 points, second place going to Richard Fletcher, Norman Taylor wc George Robson 87. Third place went to Fred Joce, John Blake and Harry Foster 79.

Since October The Daily Mail Foursomes Knockout Competition has been played and in the final Rosie Ring and Stella Hancock beat Sheila Marquand and Lyn Ruberry. Rosie and Stella will now represent St Mellion in the next round, the venue not yet known.
