Whitsand Bay's three ball open was held recently, with the triumphant triumvirate being father and son Roy and Andrew Carter and Paul Bickle. Their two from three stableford score of 80 points represented great golf when you consider that their handicaps are six, four and four respectively.

In fact Paul Bickle returned a gross one under par 68 with his own ball on a day when scoring was not easy. Second place was taken by Barry Palmer, John Clements and Ian Pidgen on 78 points, with third going to Mark Randle, Ken Robertson and C, Knowles with 77.

Paul Bickle's recent transition to fatherhood seems to be doing his golf the power of good as he also returned a nett 66 in Whitsand Bay's Statue competition, a running medal held over a long weekend. Paul score was not good enough to win the event, however, as Terry Porter blitzed his way round to a nett 62 (off a 16 handicap).

Terry could even afford the luxury of two jittery double-bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes and still win by a superb four strokes. Andy McLoughlin's 68 placed him third and Stephen Coffin's 69 secured fourth place on countback from a whole gaggle of other competitors on the same score.
