Golden day for William and Jean

The Poretreeve of Callignton and his wife Diana visited William and Jean Riley at their home in Trelawney Rise on the occasion of their Golden Wedding, bringing with them a basket of flowers and the good wishes of the town council. Joan is first cousin to Diana, the present Portreeve's wife

The couple met in Callington, where William had asked to visit the Dance Club at the Blue Cap to teach the members the Lancers. This he did and also fell in love at the same time. The couple were married in St Mary's. Callington, by Recotr Marsh.

After his retirement from the Navy, William worked for the SWEB. Then, in 1961, he joined the family firm of Langmans following the retirement of Ron and Horace Langman. Both William and Joan worked there until 1971.

The couple, though they have now returned to Callington, have moved around quite a lot during their married life, having set up home in Canada, Torquay and Pelynt, finally ending up at their present home in Callington, where they are planning to plant a silver birch.

Mr and Mrs Riley have two daughers, Rosalyn and Denise. Their two grandchildren Michael and Lucy live in Hungerford with their parents and it was there that the couple went to spend the weekend following their Golden Wedding day which was spent, for the most part, at Pelynt, where they entertained 26 friends to a meal.
