Any linguering doubts as to whether the Ashes could carry on where they left off against Buckland were firmly dispelled in the second half of this comfortable victory at Kimberley Stadium.
Unfortunately for the Ashes, the second-round draw was not kind to them, and their reward for this victory is a trip to very good Western League Premier outfit Willand Rovers.
Kevin Hendy's side led 2-0 at the break, but their second-half performance was almost on a par with that in the 5-1 victory over Buckland, as they ran in a further seven goals.
It could have been many more, but that would have been rough on West Division side Newquay who, despite taking a beating, never gave up their philosophy of getting the ball down and trying to play football – they were just unfortunate to meet a side on top form.
