The chance to climb the church tower or see inside some of a town’s most prestigious private residences is on offer during an event starting tomorrow (Friday).

Liskeard Unlocked has around 15 properties on view as part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme from September 13-15. The town has done so well to participate that Heritage Open Days has included Liskeard as a special feature in its 25th anniversary booklet.

Among the popular buildings to visit in the town are the former children’s home at Pendean with its unusual and intricate carved stairway, the grand homes at Greenbank and Trewithen, and the Masonic hall with its symbols and secrets to be revealed by members.

Guided walks and talks also feature as part of the event, as well as a street performance by the Wham Bam drama group all about the Child Miners’ Strike of 1872.
