SALTASH Sailing club's Commodores Cup was held on June 24 and 25 using a match racing format in Wayfarers provided to the club for the event.

Sponsorship from local opticians Noakes and Habermehl allowed another appearance of the 'Cup polo shirts'. The ten teams were drawn into two groups for the round robin stage. In group A Gill and Becky Moore dominated with four straight wins, whilst the only cadet team of Simon Hinks and Nathan Harding learnt fast, to leave Ian Walker with no points. Peter and Cathy Noakes also qualified for the semi-final, having had to re-race Adrian Bennett who had collided with the committee boat.

The final mark rounding decided the top of Group B with John Willerton and Peter Hooper taking victory from Phil and Abi Hooper. In the first semi Phil Hooper could do nothing to stop an in-form Gill Moore, whilst in the second semi-final both Peter Noakes and John Willerton were both over the line. Peter Noakes redressed first to take his place in the final.

In the final Peter Noakes led Gill away from the start, and covered his lead to the first mark where he opted to gybe to the left-hand side of the course. Gill went right and by the time they had reached the leeward mark had closed the gap to nothing. The two boats rounded the mark together with Gill to leeward and, as they began the second beat, she luffed and forced a penalty on to Peter to take the victory and the cup.
