A BOXING Day cricket match at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan featured gifts from South East Cornwall.

The teams taking part in the match, played on a warm sunny afternoon at the military base, used match balls donated by Tiflex, of Doublebois, and practice balls given by the Duloe cricket team.

The cricket balls were taken out to Afghanistan by Lieutenant Commander Mat Cottis when he returned from a recent rest and relaxation visit to see his family in South East Cornwall.

The cricket match was won by a Merlin helicopter team who beat a team representing the contractors, KBR (Kellogg, Brown & Root). The aviators scored 180 runs for the loss of eight wickets, while the contractors were all out for 122.
