The Caradon Amateur Geology Group met at Millendreath beach on December 28 for the second annual geology games. Members were divided into three groups, the object being to each defend a sand castle from the incoming tide. Much digging, application of sand, rocks and seaweed ensued.
After lunch each team had to build a tower of rocks, the one with the most rocks but not the tallest, was the winner. The third challenge was to collect rocks, minerals and fossils, losing points for duplications. Lastly sandcastles with a rock and a pebble on top had to have the sand gradually removed without the pebble falling off. Calum Beeson awarded points for each game and the overall winners won a prize.
The next meeting at the Long Room, Liskeard Public Hall is on January 19 at 7.30pm. The talk by Calum Beeson is ‘How to build a cathedral’. All welcome, small fee for non-members.
