Visually impaired people with failing eyesight who are keen to develop or nourish existing gardening skills will be meeting to launch a new club. The club will have its first meeting at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland, next Friday, June 30. It is intended that the new gardening club, designed for people living in North and East Cornwall, will meet on the second Friday morning each month in the Pathfinder Garden at the college The accent will be on developing practical skills like seed sowing and taking cuttings and contributing to the work of this developing garden on the college campus. 'I am really excited at working with visually impaired people and the Duchy College to establish this new club,' said club leader Frances Hill-Smith, a horticultural therapist who until recently worked for the national gardening charity Thrive. 'I think the Pathfinder Garden at the college is a lovely site and we are looking forward to working with everyone.' A gardening club for visually impaired people already exists at the college's Camborne campus. However, the Cornwall Blind Association (CBA) felt that another was needed for people who found it difficult to travel that far. With help from the college the club is now ready to start but needs members and volunteers to help run it. • Anyone interested in attending the gardening club launch or future club meetings or who is interested in helping with transport or the running of the club should call Kerry Keast at CBA on (01872) 266708.
