EAST Looe Town Trust say they are fed up with vandalism attacks centred on the seafront, which they own, and are particularly alarmed by the number of incidents involving safety equipment.

A repeat of the same sort of trouble which occurred earlier in the year, has involved the removal of lifebelts from the seafront shelter, and from the sea defences on East Looe beach.

Trust chairman Don Webb has himself retrieved two lifebelts which had been discarded into the river, while others have gone missing or been damaged.

The Trust is replacing the equipment, each belt together with rope costing in the region of £80, but says it cannot go on doing this indefinitely.

A Trust spokesperson said the lifebelts are being replaced in the interests of public safety, but appeals to the vandals, believed to be youngsters, to leave them alone in the future.

'These mindless vandals have no thought of what the consequences of their actions might be' he said.

'They are risking the lives of others who one day might need the lifesaving equipment'.
