Hundreds of walkers and supporters will gather in Liskeard today (Saturday) with the aim of beating cancer one step at a time.

The Relay for Life event will begin at 12 noon with a lap of the course by cancer survivors at the Lux Park Sports Club.

Over the course of the next 24 hours, teams will walk, jog, skip and laugh their way around the track hoping to beat last year’s fundraising total of £38,500.

More than 200 people on 16 teams are registered to take part.

Live music from Mark Tween and Charlie Harris and energetic rhythms from Samba Kernow will entertain the crowds, and there will also be a hog roast, bouncy castle and plenty of stalls and games.

A poignant candle of hope ceremony at nightfall tomorrow will see participants complete a silent lap, while messages to loved ones are lit up around the track.

Committee member Alex Putna said: ‘This year’s Relay promises to be an emotional and inspiring event but also a fantastic fun family day.’
