Unwanted pumpkins will find a good home this week as Liskeard’s Real Junk Food Project (RJFP) plans Halloween-themed fun for families.
The event tomorrow, October 28 will be held at Menheniot Old School, from 1pm-7pm, and will include pumpkin carving, food and face painting.
A Diwali evening is also planned in Menheniot on November 2, when a menu of Indian-inspired dishes will be created by talented Junk Food chefs from intercepted food.
Meanwhile community lunches and a pop-up shop will continue throughout November at the Scout Hut in Liskeard, says Jess Sneyd of the Real Junk Food Project.
The Thursday lunches are the opportunity for families to socialise over a delicious healthy meal, and pay what they feel they can afford.
All the food is intercepted from local supermarkets and outlets and would otherwise be destined for the bin.
‘We have served more than 2,000 meals since RJFP launched in the Liskeard area in April,’ said Jess.
‘If we managed to intercept all the food that is currently thrown away in the world it would feed the 10 million people who are living with food poverty nine times over. There is enough for us all - we just need to waste less.’
