The Looe Valley Line will be the setting for a project exploring Cornwall’s railway heritage through music, art, writing and film tomorrow, Saturday, April 23.
Timed to coincide with World Book Night, the Loop the Loop: Branching Out project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Cornwall Libraries, will be running a series of pop-up events at Liskeard station and along the Looe Valley Line which will celebrate the heritage of Cornwall’s railways in a fun and creative way.
Local schoolchildren have already been researching the history of the line to produce heritage style posters and were due to travel line today, Friday, April 22 in Victorian costume, free of charge, thanks to the generous support of Great Western Railway.
Events on Saturday will include mural drawing with cartoonist from the Beano, Nick Brennan; a live sound performance by renowned composer Chris Reed from Paper Cinema; heritage film footage of the Looe Valley Line from the South West Film and Television Archive; pop-up library at Liskeard station; model railway and heritage exhibition on platform 3 at Liskeard station; free quick read books and much more.
Events will be running from 10am until 4pm with the sound performance being staged at 3pm on platform 3, the Looe Valley Line platform, at Liskeard station. All the events are free. Normal fares apply on the Looe Valley Line. Parking at Liskeard station costs £1 all day.
