A FREE Football in the Park event will take place in Liskeard’s Westbourne Gardens tomorrow (Sunday).

The Kixx Cornwall East community initiative is for children aged 2-11 and their families.

It has the aim of making exercise fun, with matches, skills and drills as well as the chance for adults and youngsters to socialise and make friends.

The event will run from 1-3pm, and for more information look for Kixx Cornwall East on Facebook.

Coach James Urie, who is running the event, said: "The event is completely free for the community of Liskeard and Cornwall

"It’s part of an initiative that I am running this year called simply “football in the park”, and we will be running multiple events across Cornwall is a various locations throughout the year.

"It’s a chance for children and their grown ups to come down and be active, play some football and sport, be social and gain confidence.

"People can come simply to score a couple of goals or can stay for a while and take part in some exercises and drills that would have been set up by myself. All the exercises/drills are fun and themed and it’s all about exploring news things and learning some skills.

"Each of these events will be located in the centre of towns and villages, making them accessible, and it hopefully will encourage people to stay out and visit local businesses in the area too."

James added: "We run sessions for children across Cornwall each week at our academy sessions, and currently we have 350 children in them - along with this we do run nursery and primary school sessions.

"But I wanted to do something a little extra this year, especially after the previous two years we have had and the negative impact it has had on a lot of young people, and try and give more opportunities to more children and give back to the some amazing communities!"
