Patrol boat in port

HMS BLAZER dropped anchor in Charlestown as part of a Naval scheme for the public. The ship, a P2000 patrol boat, aims to show members of the public what the Royal Navy is all about as well as to educate undergraduates who show potential as leaders.

Commanding officer of HMS Blazer, Lt Alan Wilson, said: 'Charlestown is a fantastic little port which we can easily visit, whereas other larger navy vessels can't.'

Cornish tea party

FIMBARRUS Fellowship in Fowey are to hold a Cornish tea party in support of Christian Aid on May 11 at 2.45pm. The event will be held in the Vicarage Garden, but if raining in the church hall. Donations of scones, cream and jam would be appreciated.

The Friends of St Fimbarrus church have organised a flower festival for May 15-20. The members of Lostwithiel Flower Club, with one or two additional helpers, have agreed to do the floral arrangements. Proceeds will be for church restoration funds.

Golden reunion

A 50th anniversary reunion is to be held for former pupils who attended Fowey Grammar school in l951.

The reunion is to be held at the Fowey Hotel on September l. A number the classmates of l951 have been contacted by organiser Stuart Hunkin - but anyone else who would like to attend should telephone Mr Hunkin on 01726 813440.

Easter services

EASTER services in Fowey will include 11am Meditation and hymns led by the Rev Ken Francis today (Good Friday), and on Sunday 8am Holy Communion, 11am Holy Communion, and 6pm Easter readings and hymns followed by a shortened service of Holy Communion.

Dolphins sighted

THE harbourmaster of Fowey, Capt Mike Sutherland, reported yesterday (Thursday) that three dolphins had been sighted in the River Fowey, off Albert Quay.
