THERE were six crimes reported in Fowey during the period January 20 to February 19 this year.
Community police officer, WPC Della James, said of these three have been detected and the offenders interviewed by police. There were three reported crimes, however, in Golant, two occurring at Penpol creek, normally covered by Looe police station.
WPC James said she had noted reports of anti-social behaviour, shouting and bad language in certain areas of Fowey, particularly during the early evening. She added that a number of complaints had also been received regarding skateboarding in the street, and she stressed that consideration must be given to where vehicles are parked in Fowey.
April meeting
for fuchsia club
THE Fowey Fuchsia club will be holding its next club meeting in the community college on April 9 at 7.30pm.
The speaker at the club's last meeting was Arthur Tickner, while at the previous get-together commercial grower Clive Simmons talked on most aspects of successful fuchsia growing. Two outings have been proposed for the summer - in June a garden at St Blazey Gate and later Pine Lodge, St Austell.
Twink is the
new mayor
THE new mayor of Fowey is to be Peregrine Carter (better known as Twink) who will be the eighth lady to become mayor of the town, the first being Jessie Hill in l967.
Twink is following in the steps of her forebears, as her great grandfather, Charles Ebeneezer Treffry, was the first mayor under the present charter when it was granted in l913. Her grandfather, Edward Treffry, also became mayor in l936, especially to take charge of affairs and celebrations for the coronation of King George V1.
Her husband, John, is a 'true Fowey boy'. Her deputy will be Tony Ryde.
Sunday services
SUNDAY services at St Fimbarrus church, Fowey this Sunday will include 9.45am All Age Worship and Sunday School, 11am Morning Prayer and 6pm Evening Prayer.
There will be a 7pm Holy Communion service on Maundy Thursday, while on Good Friday there will be Meditation and Hymns led by the Rev Ken Francis.
Planning a
hunt for eggs
THE Fowey Playgroup is planning an Easter Egg hunt for Saturday April 14, following on from the success of a similar event last year.
The Parent and Toddler group have moved from meeting on Wednesday mornings to Wednesday afternoons between 12.30-3pm in the Playgroup room.
There is a shortage of helpers for Playgroup duty and anyone who would like to assist, and has free time in the morning, should contact Julie on 01726 833188.
The Playgroup would also like to hear from anyone who can donate any pairs of trousers or pants for children aged three to five years, in case of accidents.
Church tower open
THE church tower at St Fimbarrus church was open on Saturday for members of the public to inspect!
The vicar of Fowey, Rev David Maddock, said: 'We are always looking for new bellringing volunteers. It is an enjoyable hobby, and a form of Christian service because, after all, the main purpose is to call people to worship.'
He added that the church is grateful to tower captain, Ron Husband, and its band of ringers for their enthusiasm.
Fitting supper
FOWEY Gallants sailing club are to hold their fitting out supper on May 4, while the annual 'Rusty's regatta' is to take place from June 15-17.
