Finnish visitors
TWO teachers from Finland are visiting Fowey primary school this month, as part of a joint exchange in which their school in Helsinki trades ideas, news and views with Fowey.
Head teacher at Fowey, John Dickinson, said it ensures that children gain information about the lives of youngsters in another country.
History exhibition
THE Fowey History group is to hold an exhibition on the ground floor of the Troy art club, at the rear of the du Maurier centre.
The exhibition, called 'Lostwithiel Street: Then and Now' will run from February 19-28.
The building, which dates from medieval times, will be open for people to view every Tuesday from April 17-October 30, and the art club and Fowey river camera club will be holding a joint exhibition there during the du Maurier festival (May 11-20).
Appeal allowed
AN appeal against a Caradon council decision refusing a plan to construct a polytunnel in Lostwithiel has been allowed.
The plan was for construction of a polytunnel at Penpol for Plants for a Future Workers Ltd.
It was noted by the government inspector that the report to committee had recommended approval.
Charity's appeal
for dog walkers
THE Cinnamon Trust, the national charity for elderly and terminally ill people and their pets, is seeking volunteers who are prepared to walk dogs in the Fowey and Par areas.
The Trust seeks to keep owners and their pets together for as long as possible through the help of such volunteers, who also offer foster care of the animals in their own homes, when the elderly or terminally ill face a short spell in hospital. A permanent home from home sanctuary is also provided by the charity for companion animals who outlive their owners.
Volunteer co-ordinator, Marilyn Tenbeth, said a rota is currently being arranged for an elderly lady who is no longer able to exercise her dog, because of poor health. Potential helpers can telephone for a registration form on 01736 757900 between 9am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays.
