Dobwalls Under 15's opened their account in the Studs Sports Youth League with this well-deserved victory over Lostwithiel.
Dobwalls piled on the pressure right from the start, coming close on several occasions before Mike Ruark put them ahead after 10 minutes with a left-footed shot struck from 12 yards. Dobwalls entertained their supporters with some excellent football, keeping their opponents pinned into their own half.
The second goal came from Alex Martin, who successfully followed up a shot parried by the goalkeeper to score from close range. Lostwithiel were restricted to just a few chances, with the Dobwalls defence on fine form. They increased their lead before half-time with a goal from centre-half Jamie Robins who arrived late in the box in head home from an Alex Lindsay corner.
Robins nearly put his side further ahead at the start of the second half. Dobwalls' lack of match practice and Lostwithiel's change in attitude contributed to a much different game in the second half. Lostwithiel now took the match to Dobwalls and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. Their pressure finally paid off when they caught Dobwalls out on the break to pull a goal back. To their credit, Dobwalls did not buckle under pressure and within minutes they had restored their three-goal cushion through Ruark.
Dobwalls Under 15s weekend demolition of Lostwithiel will give them confidence as they go into this Sunday's match against newcomers Newquay Town, with kick-off at 2.30pm. Players are asked to meet at Safeway car park at 1pm. Dobwalls are still looking for a goalkeeper for this season, and if you are interested, training takes place on Friday nights at Lamtoon Park, Dobwalls at 6pm.
