There were visitors galore at the Atlantic Care Home in Polperro on Friday, as well-wishers called in to help resident Florence Claridge celebrate her 105th birthday. Florrie was born in 1903 in the Midlands and had one sister and two brothers, both of whom were killed during the First World War before they reached the age of 21. Florrie worked in the jewellery trade for most of her working life as a dispatcher. Her sister moved to Australia, and lived until she was 103. Florrie married Arthur, and they both moved to Polperro when they retired at 65. They originally moved to Brentfields and then to Carey Park before settling into a mobile home on Trelawne. Arthur died at the age of 90, and the couple enjoyed a lovely life together. She was kept busy with visitors throughout the day, and there was a special cake made for her by Sophie Boxhall of Pelynt, as well as plenty of presents.
