People living and travelling on Cornwall’s South coast are being warned of more and potentially worse flooding today as high spring tides and big swell coincide with strong winds.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert warning for parts of Cornwall from Fowey to Rame Head with Fowey, Polperro and Looe particularly at risk.

“High Spring tides, strong winds and large waves exceeding 4m are expected to cause property flooding in low lying or exposed locations during Sunday.

“High water at Looe is at 17:32. Times of high water will vary along the coast. Unsettled weather is forecast and will bring force 7 west south westerly winds veering west north westerly, possibly increasing to force 8 during Sunday. Large waves are also expected, causing tides to be 350mm higher than published, resulting in wave overtopping and sea spray in exposed locations.

“People are advised to avoid low lying and exposed coastal areas. There may be localised standing water on roads. Do not drive through flood water or waves.”
