A storysack library for the children of Pensilva primary school and playgroup, developed with funds from local businesses, was launched on World Book Day - March 10.

Storysacks, a new initiative in reading, aims to give parents the confidence to enjoy books and reading together with their children, so creating a combined learning experience.

A storysack is a large cloth bag containing a young child's book with supporting materials to stimulate reading activities at a variety of levels. They are made by parents for parents and their youngsters, and being hand made have a unique quality.

The school says there are numerous ways the sacks can be integrated into the curriculum, and they are already enhancing literacy hour. Staff are also planning to develop their use further into key stage two. Major funding for the sacks has been from donations from local companies - Solomons of Liskeard, Mole Valley Farmers in Liskeard, Graham Building Merchants in Liskeard, TCB Performance Parts Ltd at Kelly Bray, Colin Hill Motors at Kelly Bray, Stratton Creber Commercial at Plymouth, the Smile Centre at Liskeard, Wicketts of Launceston, F G Marquand and Sons of Callington, Astbury Travel of Liskeard, Britain's Perfect Windows of Kelly Bray, Adtec Systems of Pensilva, Safeway of Liskeard and Dobwalls theme park.
