THERE has been widespread excitement since the official announcement this week from Coca Cola that Looe is to be included on the annual nationwide tour of the company's iconic Christmas truck, which begins on November 28.
The visit, on Monday, December 15, is seen as being a huge boost to the flood-hit town in the run up to Christmas.
A Coca Cola statement to the Cornish Times yesterday said: 'This year Coca-Cola was particularly struck by the hardships suffered in Looe, where the town underwent devastating flood damage.
'We hope that the visit from our iconic truck will bring happiness to the community. We are looking forward to being there and hope people will come along to the Christmas Truck Stop and enjoy the festivities.'
Winter wonderland
As the only stop in Cornwall on the UK tour of 45 locations, and with Plymouth not on this year's itinerary, thousands of people are expected to pour into Looe to enjoy the spectacle of the famous big red truck.
It will be parked on the harbourside Buller Quay car park, adjacent to Fore Street, throughout the day and evening.
For Coca Cola Bobby Brittain said: 'Every year the support for our "Holidays Are Coming" advert enables us to deliver a truly exceptional experience to people across the UK. As we look forward to the lead up to Christmas we're looking forward to being able to give a little happiness to people.'
As well as having pictures taken next to the truck as it lights up, fans will also be able to enjoy a snowy winter wonderland and a choir singing Christmas hits.
Armand Toms, a Looe Cornwall councillor, said: 'Looe is over the moon with this news and delighted that we are the only place in Cornwall to receive a visit from the Coca Cola Christmas Truck. The town has had a hard time of late and it will be a lovely festive experience to bring some happiness into the community, especially for the youngsters.'
