The Fowey Festival of Art and Literature is set to be launched tomorrow with a birthday party - and a special kind of treasure hunt.

This year’s festival in May will include a talk from local author Raynor Winn, who shot to the top of the bestseller list with her moving personal memoir The Salt Path.

Another Sunday Times bestselling author in Fowey this year is historical fiction writer Ben Kane, whose latest novel ‘The Falling Sword’ has been described as a ‘master of Roman military fiction’.

Also appearing at the festival will be The King’s Speech authors Peter Conradi and Mark Logue. Their first book became an Oscar-winning film, and now their follow-up describes the relationship between King George VI and his speech therapist Lionel Logue through the dark days of the Second World War.

The Fowey Festival launch at Berrills Yard will be a birthday party for ‘Isla’ the rook, the sculpture commissioned last year to honour Daphne du Maurier and created by Thomas and Gary Thrussell. To mark the anniversary, Thomas and Gary will be launching a ‘find the rook’ competition - six miniature replicas of The Rook will be hidden around Fowey. Those who spot them all will be in for a chance of winning one of the miniature birds, valued at £150, to take home.

Festival programmes will also be handed out with free goodie bags at tomorrow’s launch event which starts at 2pm.

Tickets for the Festival events are set to go on sale today (Friday 15).
