SOUTH WEST ONE
Penzance 1
Caradon 5
LEON Farrow hit a hat-trick as Caradon moved up to fifth in the table with a convincing victory at Penzance.
The visitors started strongly with some fast aggressive play, and Farrow claimed his first goal inside ten minutes.
However, the speed of play was causing some frustration for Caradon as more goals were not forthcoming.
Penzance managed to capitalise on this and, after some good passing play, beat the visiting defence to equalise.
An increase in pace by the visitors failed to deliver before the break, and it was mainly due to Dominic Ball's almost trade-mark goal-line save that proceedings remained level at the interval.
But after a constructive half-time team-talk, Caradon reverted to the smooth flowing hockey that saw them score 12 goals in the previous two matches.
A slight change in the defensive formation also saw their backline soak up all of Penzance's attacking moves without any problem – even the goalkeeper fed the ball up the pitch to the midfield. Caradon kept the hosts pinned back in their own half for the remainder of the match and it was only a matter of time before another goal arrived, with Farrow notching his second.
The away side continued to press, and with a quick turn, the in-form Charlie McCartney extended the lead.
Caradon were now in complete control of the game and pushed forward once again – with the ever-keen Neil Mullis well-placed to make it 4-1.
Another run by Farrow saw him complete his treble, going past a somewhat deflated Penzance keeper and picking up the man-of-the-match award.
The away side did concede a late short corner but the hosts failed to convert, as the confident defence dealt it with comfortably.
Caradon face local rivals Bodmin tomorrow and are looking to keep their momentum going with another win.
