A FAMILY of five has been left without central heating for more than two months. The family, with three children and a baby, has been left cold and angry after storage heaters were taken away in September. Their council house, in Culverland Park, Liskeard, was given a new central heating system as part of an upgrading of council houses in the area. However, their home was not connected to the gas mains leaving the family without sufficient heating. 'I think it is wrong the way we have been treated'‚ said the mother. 'I have an 18-month-old baby who has to sleep with me and my husband to keep warm. 'The other night my five-year-old daughter was awake at 3.30am because she was so cold.' The house was supplied with a portable gas heater as a temporary measure but according to the parents the heater was not up to standard. Mould, ice and condensation appeared around the windows of the house as a result of damp conditions and an electric heater was bought by the family as the situation got worse. 'It is not very nice to have no heating at this time of year,' the mum said. 'We got the electric heater in October when it started to get colder but it is costing us a lot more a week in electricity and we should be compensated for this.' Compensation Caradon District Council confirmed that the house had now been connected to the gas mains. A spokesman said that it had taken an unacceptable length of time for the central heating system to be connected. However, because the council relied on an outside company to connect council houses to the gas supply it was outside its control. An amount of compensation is now expected to be offered to the family.
