Please allow me to add to the plaudits mentioned in your columns recently in regards to Liskeard Community Hospital.
I have had experience of no less than three hospitals in the last two months, due to a broken limb incurred while on holiday.
The first hospital was in Greece, where I found the surgeons, doctors, and nurses professional but, due to language difficulty and a different culture, even though the people were splendid and helpful, I missed out.
The second hospital was Derriford in Plymouth where I found the staff efficient but under pressure, not having time to devote to patients due to the sheer size of the hospital and its demands.
The third was Liskeard Community Hospital – and it was the way that this hospital was run and staffed that restored my faith in the NHS. In my stay, just about a month, I was made to feel as a patient should, where my disablement was discussed and help given.
I should like through your columns to record my thanks and that of my family, to all the staff at the hospital.
To the doctors and nurses who were marvellous and looked after me so well, to the physios who got me mobile again and to the cleaning and catering staff who with their good humour helped me get well.
To all the people concerned, a sincere thank you.
As a footnote, it is no coincidence that all of the staff mentioned above are employed by the NHS – that, and a smaller and more manageable building, show what hospitals should be like.
