ENTERTAINERS from the Liskeard area will be coming together in December to lay on a special evening in aid of a six-year-old cancer sufferer.

Erin Lewsey is a happy, energetic and beautiful six-year-old girl who lives in Liskeard with her older sister Megan, mum Esther and dad Jonathan. Erin loves life, but sadly has been fighting cancer for the past 18 months.

She was diagnosed with a Wilm's tumour in April 2011 and after an operation to remove her kidney and chemotherapy throughout the year, in January the family were relieved to be told that the scans taken were clear.

But the euphoria was short lived. In April they were devastated to hear that the cancer had returned, having spread to Erin's lungs, and is in-operable. She started another course of chemo, and Esther and Jonathan started extensive research into other treatments and help available.

Her parents are now looking at a number of alternative treatments, most of which will require significant funding, especially if they need to travel abroad which is a possibility. They have also set up Erin's Fund for Life with the initial aim of helping Erin get the treatment she needs.

'Our long term aim is to help other children and families in the South West, and also the charities who have been an incredible support to Erin including CLIC Sargent and Derriford Children's Cancer Service,' said Jonathan.

'Erin continues her courageous battle against this disease. Her diet is radically different to most other six-year-olds, with many supplements and other lifestyle aids. Despite her illness, this brave little girl lives life to the full, she loves reading, learning the piano and skipping to school, which she really enjoys.

'She is hoping to be swimming and bike riding again soon! Her quality of life is the most important thing to the family.'

Fundraising begins on Saturday, December 15, with a festive entertainment extravaganza at 7.30pm in Liskeard Public Hall when an eclectic mix of local performers, including musicians, dancers, top bands and comedy acts, promises to be a great night for all.

Tickets are £15 (which includes a pasty and a pint) and are available now from 01579 362382 or www. sterts.co.uk and advance booking is strongly advised as there are a limited number of tickets.
