Looe - Quiberon Twinning Celebrations

Looe will mark the 50th anniversary of its twinning with Quiberon, France, from October 9 to 11 with a programme of civic and community celebrations.

The weekend will welcome the mayor of Quiberon and a delegation from the Breton town, celebrating five decades of friendship, cultural exchange and goodwill between the two communities. Highlights include a flag-raising ceremony at Looe War Memorial, a civic reception, cultural activities, harbour events and a formal signing ceremony.

A new flag representing Looe, designed by students at Looe Community Academy specially for the weekend celebrations, will also be unveiled.

There will also be music from St Pinnock Band and support from Liskeard and Looe Radio.

Dancing Borders Away

Last week I was joined in the Liskeard and Looe Radio studio by four hugely talented guests both eager and excited to tell myself, and our listeners, all about the upcoming Dancing Borders Away production 'onYon' which is taking place at The Public Hall, Liskeard on Wednesday, September 23.

Luisa Gonzalez, director of CreativeLooe, choreographer Gocha-Maria Mendible, dance teacher Rachel Bond and former professional principal ballerina Julie Felix MBE, also known as Mrs A, have been working together with a cast of industry professionals and an ensemble of young local dancers to put together this exciting evening of contemporary dance and creativity which is based on the stories of the 'Onion Johnnies' Breton farmers trading their pink onions door to door in 19th and 20th century Great Britain.

Having four such talented guests in the studio at one time was an honour and I am sure the production will be an absolute success due to their combined efforts.

Molly Hocking comes to Looe Weekender

It's that time of year again when all the pubs, clubs and eateries focus on Looe's annual festival of music — a time when locals and visitors alike revel in the sounds of some of our best local bands — and it's all for free.

This year Liskeard and Looe Radio Roadshow were invited to support The Copperfish Distillery on Bullers Quay with PA and mic for their star attraction Mollie Hocking who, as a 17 year old in 2019, won TV's 'The Voice' earning her mentoring support from Olly Murs, himself the runner up of the UK's X-Factor 2009 talent show.

Seven years on, on a Friday evening in Looe, Mollie was in excellent voice as she drew huge applause from an appreciative audience treating them to a number of her own single releases and well known classics accompanied by her excellent pianist during the two-hour performance supported by interval music from ourselves.

Mollie isn’t just wonderfully talented but also a nice person, and a bit of a joker as can be seen from our picture together.
