MORE than £145,000 has now been raised towards a new £250,000 skatepark in Looe – with a colourful new fundraising totaliser unveiled to show the community how close the project is getting.

The eye-catching display has been created by Looe Shedders and installed at the Millpool Centre.

The totaliser features a skater girl and her skateboard in a bright design, complete with the Edwina Hannaford Skatepark logo on her T-shirt.

Looe Shedders have spent weeks creating the display, with particular thanks given to member Rob Hamblett for the work involved in bringing it to life.

Chris Roy, chair of Looe Shedders, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to make our own unique contribution to this important project for the young people of Looe.

“We think the design reflects the fun of skating, and it has been a team effort to make something that both looks good and does the job of telling people what the running project total is.”

The project is being led by Looe Development Trust, Looe Town Council and Boundless Trust, with the fundraising campaign launched in January.

Project lead Kim Spencer said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of organisations within our community who want to do their ‘bit’ to support this project.

“We jumped at the offer from Looe Shedders to produce a totaliser that we could display in the Millpool Centre. It’s a visual reminder as to how far this project has come since we launched our Crowdfunder campaign in January this year.”

The money has come through a mixture of grant applications, pledges from local organisations, personal donations and fundraising events.

Several more fundraisers are planned before the end of the year, but organisers are appealing for further support to help push the total towards the target.
