The East Cornwall Bach Choir spring concert this year is to be held in the lovely St Petroc's Church in Bodmin on Saturday, March 18, starting at 7.30pm.
The choir's music director, Simon Dunbavand, will conduct the soloists, choir and well know orchestra ‘Divertimento Ensemble’ in the performance of two glorious Baroque music masterpieces: G F Handel's “Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate” commissioned by Queen Anne to celebrate the end of the Spanish War of Succession which had continued for 14 years, and Henry Purcell's “Te Deum and Jubilate” composed for St Cecilia's Day in 1694.
The choir was founded 57 years ago and since that time has had a succession of excellent music directors, the latest being Simon who has been in post for almost a year.
New singers are always welcome and will be invited to an audition after attending three rehearsals. Anyone interested can email [email protected]
The choir also invites people to become patrons and financially support the choir. Those who provide support in this way will receive priority seating at concerts, exclusive social events and recognition in the concert programmes. For more information contact patrons secretary Nicky Walker on 01752 851281.
For those wishing to join, an ECBC Scholarship Fund is available and offers free choir membership subs of £120 per year plus £250 of singing lessons. It is aimed at younger people but not exclusively.
