KAT Savage likes walking, loves animals – and is always looking for a new challenge.
Now the 37-year-old singer from Millbrook has embarked upon her biggest adventure yet; a 90-day, 1,200-mile hike from one end of the country to the other.
Kat is taking each step for Animals Asia, a charity campaigning to end the cruel practice of farming moon bears for bile.
The bile has a variety of medical uses in China and Vietnam, but the bears are subjected to horrific treatment during a lifelong imprisonment.
Animals Asia has rescued hundreds of bears and rehomed them in sanctuaries, as well as raising awareness of the cruelty-free synthetic alternatives to natural bile.
Since discovering Animals Asia in 2012, Kat has become a passionate advocate for the moon bears, recording a song, and even having the charity’s logo tattooed on her back.
The fiery red head chose February 4 as the day to start her epic walk from Land’s End to John O’ Groats.
The Cornish Times caught up with her just as she reached half way.
Kat, who sings with the bands I Love Amp and the Ox Eye Daisies, as well as being a mindfulness and meditation instructor at Plymouth University, is posting clips, photos and updates on her Facebook page Walking Great Bearitain.
