Students from Cornwall College Saltash have been helping to spruce up Antony House ahead of the summer season. Managers at the 18th century National Trust mansion and gardens have provided foundation learning students with an opportunity to improve their gardening and craft skills. Clearing and pruning and gravelling paths have been among the tasks undertaken by the young people over the past couple of months. The students have also teamed up with their peers from the carpentry course to make bird boxes from old pallets, which will be used to encourage nesting around the estate. The young people are ‘an immense help’ in getting the gardens ready for the visiting season, said outdoor eduction programme leader for the National Trust, Brian Langley. ‘The students and tutors are a delight to work with and we hope they are able to continue here at Antony, as they are now seen as a valuable part of the team,’ he said.
