The voices of more than 100 pupils from 18 primary schools across Cornwall will be ringing out at County Hall in Truro at 10am on Friday, July 15 when their school councils are presented with Promoting Active Democracy Loudly (PADL) awards.
Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Awards will be presented for their work in encouraging effective student voice and leadership in schools.
The PADL project, which was set up by members of the Cornwall Youth Forum in 2001, provides a set of standards for primary school councils to guide and measure effective student voice, representation and leadership within their schools.
The scheme was run by children’s charity Barnardos until 2012, when the work was taken over the Cornwall Healthy Schools team.
Among the 18 primary schools receiving awards at Friday’s ceremony are Liskeard Hillfort Primary School – Bronze; Carbeile Junior School – Bronze; Pensilva Primary School – Gold; Coads Green Primary School – Gold; Delaware Primary Academy – Gold; Upton Cross Primary School – Gold.
