A SOUTH East Cornwall school is to feature in a new academic publication about creative teaching.

Duloe School has been identified by professors at Winchester University as a shining example of creative teaching practice, which means they’ll be included in a new publication by Professor Bill Lucas and Dr Ellen Spencer.

Teaching Creative Thinking - Developing Learners who generate ideas and can think critically’ is an extensive enquiry, published by Crownhouse, in which the researchers hope to present a call to action about the importance of creativity in teaching.

Duloe’s status of ‘School of Creativity’, awarded by Ofsted back in 2008, brought the school to the attention of the researchers.

Duloe School, along with a number of other schools from across the world, provided case studies for the researchers to demonstrate how creative thinking is built into the school.

Headteacher Ann Carter said: ‘We were exceptionally proud to achieve the status of School of Creativity and have worked continuously ever since to ensure our approach to learning and the resulting impact on standards has been maintained throughout the school.

‘We continue to work at a national and local level, sharing our expertise and knowledge.

‘We feel it is vital to work with numerous agencies and professional bodies to involve children and families in the planning and development of their own learning opportunities.

‘We strive to ensure children flourish in a caring, encouraging atmosphere where staff and pupils are encouraged to ‘take risks’ and celebrate their achievements.’
