HAIRDRESSING students have been building bridges with their European neighbours.

A group of students from Slovenia have visited Cornwall to share expertise and swap stories with aspiring Cornish hairdressers.

Level 2 Hairdressing students at Cornwall College Saltash played host to the group of 16-year-olds.

Visiting student Kaja Tomazil, said it was a “really interesting enjoyable day.”

 She said: “It is a lovely college here at Saltash, the facilities are great, it is a much bigger salon here than what we have at our college.

“We were models for the English students, they washed and blow dried our hair and then we styled their hair and did hair braids.

“It has been really interesting speaking to the students and learning more about the differences in the industry between the two countries.”

The visit was organised by Almond Vocational Link Ltd and project manager Janet Wonnacott said Cornwall College Saltash had been “incredibly accommodating in assisting us in our European projects”.

She said: “It is a great opportunity for the visiting students, they are in the UK for a couple of weeks and following their visit here at Cornwall College Saltash they are going to London for the Salon International conference.”

Caroline Reed, hairdressing lecturer at Saltash, said: “It was great for our students to interact with hairdressing students from another country.

 “We are developing a link with their college for future projects that will enable our students to experience cultural diversity and gain a great insight into different teaching and learning methods and to share good practice and techniques.”
