Saltash.net community school’s production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ gave audiences four evenings of entertainment from two casts.

The success of the show has been recognised by Saltash Town Council, with the production recently being presented with the Citizen Award for Best Performance.

Director, Emily Venner and musical director Nicola Silvester decided to have two casts of leading roles.

Assuming the lead role of meek and dejected floral shop assistant Seymour was Year 12 student Richard Tolman, in Cast 1 and Year 10 Student Brandon Escott, in Cast 2.

Performing alongside Seymour was Grace Hodge (Year 10), who played Seymour’s love interest Audrey. Tyler Stapleton and Tommy Williams were the creepy dentist.

The voice of Plant was provided by Molly Banks and India James. Both worked closely with Oliver Crawford, who was the puppeteer.

The two different casts of Urchins- who narrate and lead the show with songs, were played by Sophie Watson, Chloe Lynch, Megan Kelly, Eva Kleckham- Ager, Molly Willis, Ellie Wanless, Jazmine Leslie and Lottie Ryder-Wearne.

The band was led by students.

Director, Emily Venner said: “The annual productions have become a huge part of performing arts at Saltash.net and they are a great opportunity for students of all ages and abilities to work together in a different environment.

“We’ve had students from all year groups involved, whether that’s Year 13 media and drama students Micah Barlow and James Peek filming the show, or Kallum Eccleston from Year 8 who was our backstage manager, or the cast who ranged from Years 7 to 12.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the production, including members of our community: we honestly couldn’t have done it without your support.

“I must end by saying how impressed I’ve been with our amazing students; they really stepped up to the challenge!”
