Cornwall Croquet Club played their second South West Federation Golf Croquet League match of this season at home against Barnstaple.

Barnstaple's home lawns are much below full-size and, in addition to having two of their more experienced players unavailable, they had to get used to the Duchy's full-sized courts.

By lunchtime, Cornwall were

9-1 up with two games drawn.

The afternoon session continued to go their way, with Cornwall taking a further six games to Barnstaple's one with one more drawn for a final score of 15-2 to the hosts, with three drawn.

Meanwhile, the Duchy defeated Plymouth 4-1 in their away South West Federation Intermediate League match at Plymouth last Friday.

Despite only being able to raise three players for the tie, Tony Jennings and Colin Hadley played in the doubles, receiving half a bisque from Bob Savage and Peter Gates and winning by two hoops after being behind for most of the game, while Paul Schofield managed to overcome Brian Stephens 18 points to 12 on time.

In the afternoon, Jennings pegged out fairly easily against Gates and Hadley lost rather badly against Brian Stephens, who had recovered his form after his morning disappointment.

Schofield received five bisques from Savage and got to peg and one-back when his bisques ran out.

Savage then got both clips on the peg, while Paul Schofield got to four-back. Savage then attempted to peg out, missed with the croqueted ball and decided to peg out his strikers ball.

Unfortunately, when he came to peg out his other ball, he missed and Paul Schofield won 26 points to 25.
