MOTORISTS have been caught speeding at up to 70mph at the Dobwalls Bypass roadworks.

The Peninsula Road Safety Partnership is reminding drivers that a 40mph speed restriction is in place.

The partnership says that the reduced speed limit will cut the risk of accidents which can not only cost lives but can also cause hours of delays for other road users.

A spokesperson said: 'Despite the installation of multiple signs for nearly two months, motorists have been caught travelling up to 70mph.

'Drivers and riders have been ignoring the 40mph signs until they reach the first visible speed camera.

'They need to be aware that the speed limit becomes enforceable as soon as they pass the first 40mph sign and we have put measures in place to check that they are adhering to the limit.

'The purpose of these cameras is purely safety and we urge all motorists to slow down.

'We don't want people to get caught speeding. We want them to drive safely through the roadworks so that the roadworkers can do their jobs without worrying about speeding drivers careering into them.'
