LISKEARD Town Council got down to the nitty gritty on Tuesday night – or should that be knitty gritty...
During a council meeting, a newly-elected councillor was told to stop knitting.
Mayor Tony Powell told Open Liskeard councillor Rachel Brooks, who represents Liskeard West, that knitting during a meeting was both 'disrespectful to the office of town councillor and to the electorate'.
But cllr Brooks replied that she could concentrate better when she was knitting and carried on.
She was supported by Open Liskeard's Sally Hawken who said that Liskeard council had an equality and diversity status, and it was cllr Brooks' human right to knit at the meeting as she had special need to do so – to aid her concentration.
Support also came from Open Liskeard's Roger Holmes.
Despite the mayor's comments, cllr Brooks continued knitting.
